The “Obidient” Virus

The “Obidient” Virus

No matter how dismissive you are about the political movement called the “Obidient” which is the political movement borne out for the sole purpose of the emergence of Peter Obi as the next president of Nigeria you won’t deny the fact that they are taking over everywhere and they are indeed everywhere.

You don’t have to be politically involved or active in Nigeria to have heard about them or to have seen what they are doing. It is more like every Nigerian youth is now Obidient and boldly identifies with the movement.

The word Obidient has become so famous and an everyday usage that even urban  Dictionaries provide definitions for the word.

Most people (including me) can attest to the fact that it is now a herculean task to spell the word “Obedient” correctly without autocorrect or google suggest suggesting the correct spelling of it to be “Obidient” due to constant usage of that word. It is that serious.

The rallies they organize are always jam-packed without Peter Obi even being present. The recent ones in Benin, Auchi, Portharcourt, Enugu, etc were massively sold out with youths chanting the name Peter Obi and with the insignias crested on their bodies, clothes, placards, walls, etc.

The chants and ovations that Peter Obi gets in public events, even in religious gatherings are always deafening. In the recent NBA conference, lawyers jumped out of the conference to chant and follow Obi around that it was the moment that nearly ended the event if not that Obi was sneaked out.

No political party or political movement in Nigeria has ever spread like this in a short time like this Obidient movement in the history of political movements in Nigeria. Not anyone, even the political movement formed for the actualization of the independence of Nigeria in the 1950s did not enjoy the popularity and followership that the Obidient movement is enjoying today.

This movement breached the gap and caused the coming together of all religious groups, tribes, and regions in Nigeria for the realization of one purpose and this is so amazing as it points to the fact that when there is unity of purpose there will be unity in diversity.

This cause led the Nigerian youths who hold the record of political apathy, especially the southern youths to get fully involved in the political scenes in Nigeria as most of them have indicated interest to contest for electoral positions in their individual states under the Labour Party political platform. A youth in Delta state turned down a political appointment from the Delta State government newly with the reason that he wants to be Obidient and work for the emergence of Obi as president; this is never heard of.

This cause led to the eradication of the Ipob militia to the barest minimum in southeastern Nigeria as most “unknown gunmen” have decided to lay down their arms and get involved in politics to effect a positive change in Nigeria.

The way people are donating their personal properties to be used as campaign offices for the realization of this goal shows that the movement is ripe and the people are ready for political revolution and change of status quo in the Nigerian political scene.

The joy and hope in the face of Nigerians when the name Obi or Obidient is mentioned points to the (although rebuttable) fact that Obi is the one.

No matter how dismissive other political party members are and the false public appearance they put up that they are not scared, we only know that it is all lies and cover-ups. Each one of them is scared and worried about what may happen in the polling booths in 2023 because of the Obidient virus movements.

Ps: this is not an endorsement but a statement of facts as the fact speaks for itself.
