Only in America will a group of people gather together to give $6.6 billion so that people can code and unveil new products. No land, no steel, no factory. Nothing physical. Just lines of codes. Yes, OpenAI’s bank account is fatter with $6.6 billion at a valuation of $157 billion:
“OpenAI has solidified its standing as a behemoth in the tech world, closing a colossal $6.6 billion funding round, and propelling its valuation to an eye-popping $157 billion. Though the specifics of the investors weren’t all revealed, sources with inside knowledge have confirmed that Thrive Capital took the lead, with tech heavyweights like Microsoft, Nvidia, and SoftBank among the big names contributing.” Note the roll call: Apple was not at the party!
It is what it is and this is clear: the fear of missing out on the next big thing which can DOMINATE a category is more potent than the fear of losing money. Simply, the goal is absolute global dominance where the category-king is unambiguous since even in sports, it is WIN or go home. No sports category in America recognizes Silver or Bronze medals. If you are not #1, you have lost because coming second has no reward.
