Nigeria Vanguard ePaper – Innovation In Digital Media. What The Impacts Could Be

One of the most innovative digital media firms in Nigeria – The Vanguard – has introduced a really cool product. The ePaper. It is an equivalent of the print in a high resolution format. They also have the SweetCrude in this format as well as products like Property, Financial, etc.

 

Vanguard is also moving into the mobile ecosystem. When you can have a high quality HD versions that mirror the print, it means very soon, the digital strategy will dominant the print. Notice that they are not removing the ads. If you print that digital copy, you may not need to order the print.

 

Vanguard better sale small ads as people flip the epaper, otherwise, they will destroy their print model. That it is free is right as Punch experiment has shown that you cannot monetize news via subscriptions in Nigeria.

Thisday.ng was among the first Nigerian firms that paid for this domain class, for Nigeria.

 

Google redirects google.ng to Google.com.ng

 

Ni.ng for Ning.com, Ki.ng for King.com are still free. Because of the gerund of .ing, there are many things that can happen with .ng. Lovi.ng, Kissi.ng, Teachi.ng, Dieti.ng, and many more.

 

We just got something hot in Nigeria and it could be a bounty. But wait; to get this hot structure, you need a lot of money. It was rumored that it goes for about N1m for really good ones.

Pirated Software in Lagos – Authorities Are Raiding Offices. NCC Determined To Clean Lagos of Illegal Software

Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) is raiding the premises of  software resellers in Lagos in an effort to fight against pirated software. Microsoft assisted to coordinate this project and high quality counterfeits like Windows and Office were seized.

 

The challenge is that piracy is killing businesses and not just for the MNCs but local software makers.  If Nigeria does not solve this problem, it must not expect to make much progress in developing high quality local software. Intellectual property rights remain a key part in structuring modern civilization.

 

Mr Afam Ezekude, Director General of NCC , captured it when he said: “We must put a stop to the software pirates that trick innocent consumers and small businesses into parting with their hard-earned cash for illegal and, sometimes dangerous, goods. Starting a new business on counterfeit software is like building a house on quick sand.”

 

It is time for Nigeria to clean Lagos and get these bad guys out of business. With more than 80% in software piracy, incentives for innovation will surely not be there for some smart kids with visions to build a strong local software industry. NCC, please get this done very quickly and put Lagos in order.
