Well, depending on the structure of the market, some players must be at centre, without that base, there may not be curves or edges to perch on, for others.
Of course playing at the edges requires less capital investment and capabilities, so a lot of young firms are expected to follow that construct; but we also need the big players at the centre, that’s where infrastructural problems are solved.

Yet, one can be at the center and edges at same time; think of Apple. Sony is just at the center, and it is losing as it has no edge-business.
