Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on May 12, 2018, 6:09 PMAdetunji Eleso has a good piece that examines what indigenous (Nigerian) investors want in startups which are raising capital. He noted the following which I have rephrased:
- The problem has to be BIG to entice investors.
- A company must have validated its business hypothesis to get the interests of investors.
- The investors typically have defined structures on deals they could make. The founders must be flexible as they negotiate.
- Valuations must be based on hard business numbers like revenue, profitability, etc.
- At the end, the investors want to make money. How would that startup help investors make money?
- Investors require a strong corporate governance - doing things the right ways.
- To ensure smooth relationship, investors want startups to have good records on their operations. Ideally, any firm must have this at the beginning to demonstrate a system of accountability
