Small Business Administration loans to Black businesses have declined 84% since the height of the Great Recession in 2008, according to an analysis of data by the Business Journals. That disparity has only grown since the start of the pandemic with Black businesses going under at a faster rate than their White peers and receiving fewer economic resources. The Journals analysis found that America's four largest banks approved 91% fewer 7(a) loans to Black businesses in 2019 than in 2007, forcing these owners to rely on a patchwork of community grants, loans and other sources of funding.
