Tesla Hit with Major Cybertruck Recall as Safety Concerns Mount—Over 46,000 Vehicles Affected

Tesla Faces Fresh Blow as Regulators Recall Nearly All Cybertrucks

Tesla has hit yet another roadblock as U.S. safety regulators issued a massive recall affecting nearly all Cybertrucks on the road. The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Thursday, covers more than 46,000 Cybertrucks, marking the eighth recall since the vehicle’s launch just over a year ago.

The primary issue prompting the recall concerns an exterior panel that runs along the left and right side off the windshield, known as the cant rail assembly. According to the NHTSA report, the stainless steel strip is affixed to the vehicle using a structural adhesive that may fail, potentially causing the panel to detach while driving. This poses a serious hazard for other motorists and increases the risk of crashes.

Videos have surfaced on social media in recent days showing individuals effortlessly ripping the panels off Cybertrucks with their bare hands, further fuelling concerns about the vehicle’s build quality.

The recall applies to all 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck models manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Tesla has assured customers that affected panels will be replaced free of charge, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed by May 19, 2025.

A Troubling Trend of Cybertruck Recalls

This latest recall adds to a growing list of safety-related issues plaguing the Cybertruck since its late 2023 debut. Over the past 15 months, Tesla has recalled the futuristic electric pickup eight times, with previous issues including:

November 2024: A faulty electric inverter could cause the drive wheels to lose power.

April 2025: An issue with acceleration pedals that could get stuck in the interior trim, leading to unintentional acceleration.

Multiple recalls related to windshield wipers and the display screen malfunctioning.

While Tesla remains a dominant force in the electric vehicle market, these repeated recalls have cast doubt over the Cybertruck’s reliability and safety.

Tesla Under Fire: Beyond the Recall

The Cybertruck recall isn’t the only challenge Tesla is facing. The company has come under increasing pressure since President Donald Trump took office, appointing Tesla CEO Elon Musk to oversee the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The department’s budget-cutting initiatives have placed Musk in the spotlight, triggering backlash and controversial incidents involving Tesla properties and vehicles.

  • Vandalism & Attacks: Tesla showrooms, vehicle lots, charging stations, and privately owned Teslas have been targeted in violent protests.
  • Colorado Arrest: Authorities recently charged a woman for allegedly attacking Tesla dealerships, including throwing Molotov cocktails at vehicles and spray-painting the words “Nazi cars” on a showroom wall.
  • South Carolina Arson Case: Federal agents arrested a man accused of setting Tesla charging stations on fire. Investigators discovered writings in his possession criticising the government and DOGE.

While no injuries have been reported in connection to these attacks, they highlight the growing scrutiny and opposition Tesla is facing.

Tesla’s Declining Market Performance

Even before the recall and recent attacks, Tesla has been grappling with plummeting sales and stock value. The company has struggled to maintain its market dominance amid intensifying competition, especially from Chinese EV manufacturers that offer cheaper, more advanced electric vehicles.

Tesla’s stock price has dropped a staggering 42% in 2025, as investors grow increasingly pessimistic about the company’s future. While the latest recall doesn’t directly affect Tesla’s bottom line—since the company is offering free repairs—it adds another layer of concern over quality control and long-term reliability.

What’s Next for Tesla?

Tesla has built its reputation on innovation, with Elon Musk’s ambitious vision pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology. However, the company now finds itself at a crossroads, battling repeated safety issues, regulatory challenges, and a shifting competitive landscape.

The Cybertruck recall is just one of many hurdles Tesla must overcome to restore consumer confidence. Whether the company can weather these setbacks and maintain its dominance in the EV market remains to be seen.

For Cybertruck owners, the recall serves as another reminder of the potential pitfalls of being early adopters of cutting-edge technology. As Tesla scrambles to fix the issue, industry experts are left wondering: Has Tesla sacrificed quality for innovation?

Only time will tell if Tesla can steer itself back on course or if its once-unshakable dominance in the EV market will continue to erode.
