Surprising that BRICS did not pick Nigeria
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on August 24, 2023, 8:36 PMSurprising that BRICS did not pick Nigeria: “The choices by the current members — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — contained a few surprises, the biggest being the addition of Iran, which joined three other Middle Eastern states: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Argentina and Ethiopia rounded out the half-dozen nations tapped for inclusion...” New York Times.
Let us shoot for G7 and convince the US, UK, Japan, Canada, France, Germany and Italy to expand to G8 for #Nigeria! Seriously, there is a huge penalty on perception; Nigeria is not having the best right now. That Iran can make a list along with Ethiopia should activate a moment to search the soul of Nigeria.
(sure - Nigeria can argue that it showed only informal interest and could not have been processed for membership)
Nigeria showed informal interest but did not apply. Who wants to write an exam he is sure he will fail? And if BRICS had wanted us, they would have lobbied us. Yes, the VP can spend days observing a party you could have become an organizer. We must not hide that we did not apply because we did show interest to start with. And if BRICS wanted us, they would have pushed through. The outcome is clear: we’re not in BRICs which to a large extent we would have celebrated if the outcome was different.

"non alignment status." - nothing non-alignment here. This is not a military alliance. That language does not come here. Nigeria showed informal interest and yes it did. If it never had interest, it would not have even shown that interest. If they had wanted us, they would have…
