Nigeria’s Secret Police Plan to Arrest Godwin Emefiele
I am very happy that the Nigerian stock exchange does not trade on information in near real-time. If not, it would have crashed today. The news that Nigeria's secret police wants to arrest the high priest of the Nigerian economy, the governor of the central bank, would have set every investor backward.
But thank goodness, what happens there is data-free in the short-term, at least: "The move by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and detain the Central Bank governor Godwin Emefiele has been thwarted by a federal high court. An Abuja high court declined to grant the application by the DSS over lack of evidence. The secret service had filed an application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022 to arrest and detain Emefiele over allegation that he is involved in terrorism financing and other economic crimes."
