Killing non-compete clauses is bad
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on January 18, 2023, 12:15 PMI am not sure killing non-compete clauses will be good for capitalism. I think it is better to review and reform it so that it is not abused. A world where there is no non-compete clause will not be great for employers when it comes to innovation. How do you hire someone today, and tomorrow that person can pick the idea, to start a business, to compete with you?
The Federal Trade Commission's proposed ban on noncompete clauses in employment contracts could potentially damage employers' ability to protect trade secrets, lawyers tell The Wall Street Journal. A complete or partial ban would widen the talent pool available to employers, but comes with the downside of companies being less able to retain talent and protect sensitive information. The FTC's proposed ban would affect almost all noncompetes, which it says limit competition and innovation and suppress wages.
