It is Primary Week in Nigeria

Good People,

I’ve been writing on politics because it is the business this week. Do not be surprised. I understand many are not comfortable talking about it because politicians may be offended. I do not really understand why that should be the case.

Let me make it clear: there is nothing wrong for business leaders and professionals to talk and write on politics. Politics determines the future of nations. Just keep it non-partisan and analytical knowing that it is not physics.

And to save your space, there is no need to remind me to keep out of politics. I ran and won elections as a student and enjoyed it. And I am constantly engaged on politics because through the lens of politics I see business strategies and models.

As I explained, the first sector in Buhari’s inaugural address was agriculture. I made investments accordingly knowing his priorities.

But for your job and contracts, you may just ignore the political notes. This is the primary week in our nation. We cannot be talking of marginal cost and P&L ross margins when men and women who will run the next 4 years are elected.

Professionals must get over that thinking that politics diminishes us. Politics is the largest sector in Nigeria. It feeds the public sector. We cannot ignore it. Just keep it non-partisan.
