IBM and the Gun-Shops

IBM has evolved. The market cap of IBM is about $110 billion while Microsoft is $1.62 trillion as I type. IBM used to be the American special breed in the world of technology.  Preparing a presentation for a tech board on Strategy, I came to this piece by the Atlantic. I laughed and laughed even though it was not supposed to be a laughing matter. Yes, Atlantic wrote: “When IBM abandoned lifetime employment in the 1990s, local officials asked gun-shop owners around its headquarters to close their stores while employees absorbed the shock.”
