Even Google is looking at how to manage costs: "Google is combining the teams responsible for working on its Waze and Maps products, in a bid to keep costs down amid an advertising slowdown and continued economic uncertainty. A Google spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal the merger would begin Friday, with Waze CEO Neha Parikh leaving her role after the transition. Google will continue to maintain the two platforms — with no layoffs planned as part of the merger — despite the industry culling workers at a swift rate. Earlier this year, CEO Sundar Pichai said he wanted the company to become 20% more productive, with some teams working on overlapping projects to merge."
