Companies are fighting meeting paralysis
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on January 3, 2023, 8:09 PMCompanies are fighting meeting paralysis where meetings become like the jobs.
Shopify has told employees that it is wiping all recurring meetings with more than two people "in perpetuity," part of what the company calls a “calendar purge.” Employees at the e-commerce company have also been told to scrap all meetings on Wednesdays and that meetings of more than 50 people can only take place during a six-hour window on Thursdays. Shopify employees are being encouraged to say no to meetings and to remove themselves from large internal chat groups, with CEO Tobi Lutke saying such get-togethers can lead people to maintain “the status quo.” Several companies have moved to curtail excessive meetings, including Meta, Clorox and Twilio.
