A new app emerges - Clubhouse, Google sees Unions evolve
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on January 25, 2021, 9:06 PMA new social media emerges: "allows people everywhere to talk, tell stories, develop ideas..." Yes, Clubhouse is killing it and platforms like TikTok may have their hands full already for a new competitor, looking at the typical social chatter from another angle.
Clubhouse is having a really good month. The San Francisco-based audio social network has raised around $100 million, according to Axios, putting its post-money valuation at $1 billion. In addition, the startup, which launched less than a year ago, boasted 2 million weekly active users. So what is Clubhouse? In its own words, it "allows people everywhere to talk, tell stories, develop ideas..." and for now, it's invitation only.
Meanwhile, one thing Google does not want to organize as it organizes the world information - workers - are just coming along. Yes, Google workers around the world are forming alliances. I think they need that call provided they can make Google to pay publishers better.
Google workers from across the globe are joining forces to form an international union alliance that aims to hold the tech giant accountable. The coalition, named Alpha Global, consists of 13 unions representing Alphabet workers in 10 countries including the US and Switzerland. Its goal is to campaign for the rights of all Alphabet workers. According to the alliance, the tech giant has “lost its commitment” to its original mission: Don’t be evil. The announcement of Alpha Global comes after hundreds of Google employees formed one of the first Big Tech unions earlier this month.
