A Livestock Ministry is a Mistake for Nigeria
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on July 11, 2024, 6:53 AMNigeria - what a nation: "[Nigeria] has announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. This decision, revealed during the inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms at the State House in Abuja, is seen as a pivotal step towards modernizing livestock production and resolving the age-old crisis that has plagued Nigeria."
I think with that, we will have about 46 ministers for a sub-$500 billion economy. In the United States, they run the economy with about 15 ministers (yes, secretaries). I wish the nation good luck as it expands bureaucracy.
A better idea would have been creating an agency within the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and then deploy more resources into that agency. That will save the new administrative cost this new ministry will trigger. That said, good luck again, Nigeria; anything that works is the best strategy.
