It was the latter’s performance, however, that caused a stir when Drake surprised the crowd by bringing out Madonna. The table then turned, however, when Madonna delivered an unscripted kiss on the “God’s Plan” singer live onstage. While there were rumors about Drake’s less-than-enthusiastic response to the kiss, the rapper set the record straight following the festival. As he wrote on Instagram at the time, "Don't misinterpret my shock!! I got to make out with the queen Madonna, and I feel 100 about that forever. Thank you @madonna."
Other performers that weekend included Hozier, The Weeknd, Tyler the Creator and Florence & the Machine, the latter of whom also delivered a memorable performance as frontwoman Florence Welch broke her foot while jumping off the stage. But while there was a lot of excitement onstage, Coachella one decade ago also boasted some A-list celebrities in attendance many of whom have remained loyal goers in the years since.
Among those who ventured from Hollywood to take in the sun, sand and music were Kylie Jenner and her then-boyfriend Tyga, who posed for a picture with the Khy founder’s sister Khloe Kardashian. Both Kardashians wore of-the-era ankle boots, Kylie pairing hers with a lace bodysuit while Khloe opted for a gray cotton bodycon dress.
Another Coachella regular at the festival was Zoë Kravitz, who donned a plaid romper, black platform boots, a chunky gold choker and large square sunglasses. Other celebrities whose festival looks truly encapsulated the era’s fashions were Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Behati Prinsloo.
