HTC’s new device has already been known by many names including Endeavour, Edge and Supreme. Now it’s been confirmed the handset will be called the HTC One X and it’s likely it will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona due to take place next week.
Last year, Samsung Galaxy S2′s dual-core was a game-changer. This year it looks like HTC’s One X’s quad-core could do the same. Under the moniker HTC Edge, the potential power of the new device began being talked about before Christmas. If the reports are true, the One X will be the first smartphone to have a quad-core.
It is likely that Samsung, LG and Motorola will follow suit. Whether the Galaxy S3 will have it will remain to be seen; earlier rumoured features for the highly anticipated phone after always speculated a dual core processor with a higher clock speed.
Samsung has already said they will not be showcasing their follow up to the enormously popular S2 at Mobile World Congress, although it is said to be pencilled in for this year with recent news of a press conference to be held on March 15th in Amsterdam suspected to be the big day.
One that could well be seen sooner rather than later is LG’s X3 handset. It could mean that the congress could see two heavyweights in the marketplace stepping into the ring with the world’s fastest smartphones on the global stage. If this two phones do go head to head the One X is likely to be the victor considering that last year’s Optimus 2X debacle is still fresh in the minds of many.
The HTC One X, it has been reported, will house four cores in its Nvidia Tegra 3 1.5 GHz processor. It means the device will be quick, very quick. Suddenly, every dual-core processor is likely to look far slower by comparison.
In addition to the processor, other reports suggest there will be a change in design for HTC with their latest handset. Up until now HTC smartphones have had four buttons for navigation and key features on the handset. The One X, it’s being claimed, will lose those in favour of the on-screen buttons offered by Ice Cream Sandwich. It is also said there will be 1GB of RAM and there will be 32GB of storage. However that’s likely to be your lot as apparently the device won’t have a micro SD card slot or expandable memory.
The One X, it’s been reported, will be shipped with the latest version of Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s expected the device will have an 8 megapixel camera on the rear and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. The video will be 1080HD.
The device is said to have a 4.7inch touchscreen with a 720p display, which should show off that processor pretty well showcasing media.
If the One X is announced at Mobile World Congress at the end of this month then it is likely it will hit the shelves late spring to early summer. If HTC will be competing head to head with LG they will be tempted to get the device out sooner, rather than later, getting the headlines and the interest from shoppers. Although the device is not likely to be cheap, which will make it an exclusive handset. Figures being suggested are as high as £600, which will price many out, but if it helps HTC corner the quad-core market they will be keen to opt for that exclusivity tag.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960(dual-core) easily beats Tegra 3 on most benchmarks except Antutu benchmark. Quad-core processor still has a huge advantage over a dual-core processor. If HTC One S comes with MSM8960. We will find out which “One” is better. I will prefer the one which save more battery life. Because both of them are too powerful as a phone SoC.
