We’re so excited to welcome you to Mocality, Africa’s largest mobile business directory in the making, says a welcome message on the Mocality website. Notice in the “making”. And they  have  selected Lagos with its vibrant market and energetic people as the very first location to launch this amazing service in Nigeria. Awesome. This is a South Africa company moving out of its domain to other African markets.

Mocality is a business directory designed specifically for the mobile phone. It is the result of an enormous amount of research into the activity and needs of Africa as a continent. Its aim is to generate a massive base of local content that is accessible from your mobile phone and easy to search. It’s designed to help you find whatever you need in your city without having to look it up in a book or even use a computer. It’s a wealth of local information in your pocket, wherever you are, any time of the day.

Yet, it does not seem that the site is very intuitive. The ads are small and they have to come up with a way to make it bold and engaging. What they have there is not good enough. Also, they need to allow customers to upload unique images. There is nothing one can do in that site if Mocality is also competing with Tekedia on Google ads. They may need to take those ads out and expand the space so that customers can have the nice feeling.

They seem to be doing well as many customers have posted with excess of 290 pages. Some of the ads are:

  1. 1. The Knot Centre

    Lagos Mainland, Lagos

Located close to Yabatech Second Gate

  2.

    Ikeja, Lagos

    Located close to Ikeja GRA

  3. …..Made Easy

    Lagos Mainland, Lagos

    Located close to Okesuna Bus-Stop

  1. Great job Mocality. How can you get the phone app?

  2. Unfortunately ; game is over. Mocality has announced shutdown of it’s site; finally.

I believe only biggest survivor in this business directory game is VConnect.com

  3. Dear Editor,

Indeed you are right although the rate; At which top notch companies and VCs are investing in Nigeria is also impressive (I am also looking at positive side)

In last 3 years; Nigeria Saw Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc did set up their base and other big ones are geared up to invest here.

So Although this is a thumb rule of doing business (90% of business fails whereas only 10% survived) ..The smarter business wins (although it depends on many factors – controllable and non controllable)

But in nut shell; I look positively; IT / Internet industry is booming… and would continue to grow. despite of some noticeable failure.

  4. Good point – good to look at the positive. Generally, we feel very optimistic about the ecosystem in the continent especially in Nigeria. If we have electricity in Nigeria, maybe, that 90% will drop to 70%.

  5. “Tekedia ? Mocality Online Business Directory Seems To Have Figured Out Magic Wand In Nigeria” Accieee honestly causes me personally
contemplate a small amount further. I cherished every single piece of it.
    Regards -Connor
